The issue of political parties and young people is a broad issue that needs thorough discussion. The reason why I am saying this is that many young people of today do not like associating themselves with any political party. There is that ideology among young people that politics is only meant for old people. To some extent, this can be true because if you study the political system of the country very well today, you will find that most of the political seats have been occupied by older people. The second reason is that the young people are energetic and have fresh ideas that will help to move the country forward. Anytime one thinks about young people, energy comes into their minds. This is what the young people are. They are energetic and have the willingness to drive for change. This means that they can work more and therefore produce more for the parties. They also have new wonderful ideas that can be brought on the tables that will lead to the development of the political parties. Their developmental ideas are worth being followed because they will bring more change.

 

These are just two main reasons that should encourage young people to take positions in political parties. There are going to be dire consequences if the youth do not take up these positions. There was a time long ago in American history when the two well known political parties within the United States were actually one; the Democratic-Republican Party. You see, cutting taxes is very appealing to people – that is until some of the people realize that also may mean cutting or losing programs or parts of programs!  Whether or not this affects your situation personally, or whether or not you believe the government should be bigger or smaller, may affect whether you are a Democrat or Republican and vote accordingly.

If it’s for the straightforward reason of wanting to run for public office or because of his interest in the law of politics, there’s no reason why he should not do so. Unfortunately however, there are many who choose this subject to major in because there’s nothing else for them to do. What must be understood is that there are not many avenues open to someone who majors in political science, except perhaps a career in law or trying for govt. office. Anyone not interested in either of these as careers should definitely reconsider their decision and seek another degree course which would be more helpful in gaining them employment in the long term.

Another very important factor is to think very carefully if you have the right attitude and the   qualities that are required for a career in Political Science. Have you ever heard your politician speak or see some of the actions they do then realize “That is a mistake!” Well, many politicians today have that syndrome of making mistakes. Sometimes they are unintentional and sometimes they are done on purpose. Mistakes are human and some are allowed as long as it is genuine but if it happens continuously then questions must be raised. Let us bring the situation closer to home in the election arena. Have you sat down to listen to some of the things that the politicians say? They will talk a lot, lay down their ideas and strategies on the table that they say will help improve the nation and then talk, talk, talk about the bright future they see for the nation. If you notice keenly when they are laying out their manifestos on some of the things that they are going to do, you will realize that some of them are unreal. This should be an eye opener to most politicians to discuss realistic strategies.

 

Mistake number two is being corrupt. How many times do you switch on your TV or read the dailies and see a case of a corrupt politician? There are many instances where this happens. This is one of the mistakes our politicians make that is really lowering the status of the country. Mistake three, that some of our politicians do, is passing bills that are in their favor. Everyone in this world love to do things that will favor them. It is part of human nature. The last mistake that I am going to talk about is how politicians detach themselves from the common citizens after getting in to office. This is a bad behavior that should be discouraged. There are politicians that once they get into the office they just forget their people and focus more on themselves and yet these are the people that put you into office.

 

These are just some of the mistakes that politicians make that should be highly avoided and condemned. If you are a person thinking of getting into politics, look at these mistakes and avoid them.
