Media Influences and Political Opinions of Voters

A country needs effective and efficient political leaders elected by the voters. We know that most of the nations are electing their political leaders through a system of general election. People have the right to decide their own leader by casting their vote in the election. There are many ways that a political leader can influence the minds of people and be a winner in the election. They want the people to feel that they are good politicians and will work towards the benefit of the society. The Media is a powerful tool in the hands of political people to affect the minds of voters and capture their votes. Media is a source of information which can be spread among a lot of people in a short period of time. It is a natural tendency of common people to believe the information that they find in medias. There can be exceptions but the majority of the people come to know about the national politics only through the media. Hence they consider it as true information. If the media gives the knowledge and highlights the personality and achievements of a particular politician, he will undoubtedly get more voters in his bucket.

The Media works through a variety of channels. It can range from  the traditional way of printing in papers to the electronic digital systems in the form of Mobile phones, Internet, Television, Radios, etc. When a general election is declared, we tend to see that most of the media covers the news related to politicians and their political parties. In the Presidential election in US the use of such media and social networking sites are widely used to influence the opinion of voters. Voters may not have any direct link with the politician, but they can get all the information about the great politicians and their activities through the media. Thereby, the voters can make a conclusion about the qualities of the contestants and make a wise decision regarding their voting right. Therefore, how the media influences the political opinions of voters is directly linked with the attributes of political leaders.

Medias are able to spread the information in disguise too. If they spread the political achievements with the deliberate intention of influencing the voters decision making then voters should be able to grasp it in a proper way. But if the medias spread wrong information regarding political achievements, it cannot be considered moral and ethical. If one person tells one matter related with politics, it is very difficult that others should believe and follow it. But if many people tell the same thing that comes as a news through social media, it is true that the number of followers will be increased with the belief that the information spread is correct. By understanding this general tendency, the media can play an important role in influencing the political opinions of voters. That is the main reason why the media is being widely used by all political parties in every general election in the US.
